Principles of Acting
Principles of Acting is for high school aged students who wish to begin a more serious study of acting and theater in general. Obstreperous Rep
This is an opportunity for students in 8-12 grades to study, rehearse and perform a short play during a single trimester. The company will be determined each trimester by an audition and interview. While talent is always a welcomed commodity, these auditions will be seeking serious actors with good attitudes and good work ethics. The first trimester will focus on Ancient Roman Farce. The second will feature a Shakespearean show. The third trimester will be a modern script chosen by the students themselves.
Class Schedule: Tuesday 5:00 (90 minutes)
Acting Seminar
Goal: For students in grades 8-12, each trimester of the Acting Seminar will cover a separate topic. In Tri I, students will study improvisation. Using standard “games,” students will learn techniques necessary for spontaneous comedy and creativity to thrive. They will also learn teamwork and leadership skills and how to decide which ones are needed at any given moment. Students in Tri II will improve their performance skills. This rather broad topic includes subjects such as stage presence, charisma, communication, facial expression and understanding different expectations for the various different types of performances that they will encounter (voice recitals, dance routines, public speaking and even joke and storytelling). Trimester III will cover everything about auditions. Areas covered include preparation and execution of monologues and songs, improving cold reading skills, understanding what a headshot and resume should look like and discussions of the entire audition process including what the directors are looking for.
Class Schedule: Thursday 7:30
