Dress Code

Proper dress code is required for all dance classes.

Course Descriptions


Learn the basics of Modern at FSPA, as well as how to improvise.

 
Modern I
Modern I is a beginner class for students (ages 10-13) and older who have been studying another dance discipline for at least one year. The class concentrates on body awareness, exploring different levels, traveling movements and positions and increasing the body’s strength and flexibility. The basic vocabulary of modern dance will be introduced.  Ballet is required.
 
Class Schedule: Saturday 10:00
 
Modern II
This is an intermediate level modern class for students (ages 13+) who are ready for more challenging exercises. The concept of fall and recovery, jumps, turns, improvisation and exploration of different musical rhythms and their dynamics will be introduced. More emphasis will be placed on developing the techniques needed to meet the challenges of more daring movements and choreography. Ballet is required.
 
Class Schedule: Saturday 12:30 (90 minute class); placement by instructor approval
 
Modern III
Modern III is an advanced level class. Advanced modern technique will be studied with an emphasis on dance improvisation. Choreographic principles will be introduced. Ballet is required.
 
Class Schedule: Saturday 11:00 (90 minute class); by invitation only
 
Modern Dress Code (Levels I, II, III): Black leotard and Capezio Caramel footless tights; Black jazz pants; No shoes
