Overview & History

The Franklin School for the Performing Arts (FSPA), founded in 1985 by Director Raye Lynn Mercer, is a unique place in which community residents can explore their interests in the performing arts with professional instruction in a supportive and encouraging environment. Students of all ages and levels of ability are invited to participate in an exciting curriculum of music, dance, and drama classes.

While the goal of many music or dance schools is to provide a year of classes that culminate in a single annual recital, the mission of FSPA is to develop technique, creativity and artistic expression to last a lifetime.

FSPA’s staff is made up of outstanding professional artists, performers and teachers. Their impressive credentials are indicative of the excellent instruction available in all programs and the high standards of excellence we hold for our school. FSPA instructors strive to meet the individual needs of each student, and rather than emphasizing competition, teachers work to develop each student’s abilities to his or her own potential.

Because performance is such an integral part of an FPSA education, The School offers unrivaled performing opportunities for students throughout the year. On the annual calendar are student recitals, concerts by faculty and guest artists, master classes, student showcases, holiday shows, spring concerts, summer camp programs and for students whose level of interest is more focused, there are special performing ensemble opportunities available by audition.
